3/4 - IOC :/
this is what recording this IOC felt like
PASSAGE:
SCORING:
CRITERION A: 8 - I talked a lot about the context of the passage within the book, and how it contributed to the overall purpose of the novel and the novel's ending and final message.
CRITERION B: 6 - I mentioned several different literary features, however I do not think I went above and beyond.
CRITERION C: 4 - I think I went from point to point fairly coherently, and it was clear when I would transition from talking about one subject to another, like from themes to purpose, for example.
CRITERION D: 4 - I think I had accurate, appropriate terminology, as well as a good emphasis and tone in my voice. However, I know that I tend to repeat things a lot, so I probably overused some words throughout my analysis.
i really liked your analysis of this passage. You did a good job structuring your IOC and your argument. I agree with your scoring of yourself. You also did a great job annotating the passage!!! for only having 20 mins of prep time you managed to identify the themes, tones, purpose, context, and author. Great post :)
ReplyDeleteGrace Copeland : I struggled with this blog post lol, but listening to yours, which sounded very much like a film OP, helped me a lot. You talked about a lot of socio-cultural context in the beginning instead of just the context of where the passage is in the novel, such as the author's Japanese background. I didn't know this could be said here, so this was helpful for my real one, which is on Monday #ripinpeace. Your timing was also good and you did a good job of "zooming in and zooming out" to keep connecting every new piece of information to the overall plot.

Really nice tone and organization here; appreciate how you connected this passage to the novel as a whole, but didn't really spend too much time away from the passage itself. I do wish you had thought a bit more about techniques used, but I will admit that this is often difficult with Ishiguro (around the 7:00-end mark, you do a nice job of tackling this).
I like how you mentioned the context of the author in addition to the context of the novel as a whole. You identified so many aspects such as theme, tones and context in a short amount of prep time. Very well done Rachel <3
ReplyDeleteWow Rachel, what an amazing blog post as per usual. I really like how on your planning document/passage, you clearly structured the way you were analyzing the text (had purpose, theme, context, etc.). This allowed me to visualize the way you were analyzing this passage and when listening to your practice IOC, have a better understanding of what you were talking about. I agree with your score except I felt that your Criteria B score should be around 7-8, because I felt that you showed a detailed understanding on the effects of the literary devices.
ReplyDeleteI loved how you mentioned context in this because I think the Ishiguro's background as an author helps to play a major in role in how his texts reflect that. I also really liked your structure and how you were able to analyze the passage and themes that are related. I really felt as though I understood everything clearly and your points were well made.
ReplyDeleteHi Wachel!! Great IOC, you sounded so formal so good job! I think you would score very well because your analysis of the passage was very detailed and overall your commentary was coherent. Your annotations also were very good and detailed and further show that your analyzed this passage very well.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed listening to your blog post! The structure was great and easy to follow, as well as the context you gave helped me to better understand the points you were trying to make! I like how to focused on Ishiguro's background and not just the background of the text. Very coherent, and great annotations!
